For the 21 years of the Honda CR-V’s expedition it has been dominating the mid-size SUV market alongside the Toyota Rav-4 and Suzuki Grand Vitara. It is one of the best five-seat 4x4s on the planet. Its cabin is spacious and practical and the 2.0-litre petrol engine combines respectable performance with low fuel bills.

Exterior design and features

The composition of the CR-V’s alluring exterior easily makes this SUV unique. Today I have here the all-new 2017 RVI model in crimson pearl, which has a purple look sometime when in the right light. Honda has a tendency of doling out face lifts like we saw in 2010 with the 3rd generation CRV. The additional chrome accents introduced in 2015 is an impressive addition and gives it more presence when sitting still. Other points in its design which standout is it flush headlight, which really steps it up from its predecessor and gives it a real smart look.

The CRV, dimension wise will surprisingly beats the Rav-4. Where do we begin?

: The CRV is 142 lbs. lighter, its longer, has more passenger volume, has more leg room and we can go on. The CRV has a ground clearance of 170 mm which is about 6.6 inches, making it excellent on tackling everyday potholes. What consumers will love is the amount of features which come standard on the CRV like the rear Camera, fog lights, brake assist and daytime running lights.

Now the RVSI model has a bit more like smart key entry, HID headlights, integrated turn indicators, chrome door handles and a more stylish set of 17inch alloy wheels which I prefer much more than its predecessor.

Interior design and features

Inside the CRV is just as impressive especially with all the features that amazingly comes standard on all models Hondas Intelligent- Multi information Display (MID). Running through the cabin let’s start with the driver’s side. This model offers beige fabric seats but you can get leather trimmed seats with an 8 way power adjustments on the driver’s side. The Gauges showing the rpm and speedometer values are large and striking with a round information cluster in its core.

A leather wrapped steering wheel also comes standard and it’s a motion adaptive electric power assisted rack and pinion steering for easy mobility and responsiveness which came in handy in the hills where I had to hug the corners. On the steering, it’s fully illuminated, with your cruise control, Audio, Phone and I-MID buttons.

Moving to the center console there is dual zone climate control and we an audio system with 6 speakers on this model and above a 5 inch display for your I-MID. The 160 watt audio system offers Bluetooth streaming, USB audio connectivity and of course your traditional AM/FM and CD player options.

When it comes on to storage u have door pocket storage bins driver and front passenger seatback pockets cup holders and a sun glasses holder for all those trendy drivers.

Moving into the back- Head room and  leg room is excellent plus when the car starts I won’t have to wait for the A/c vents at the front to force some air around back because I got too vents in the rear. In terms of boot space you have some and more.

Performance and safety

The driving experience of the CR-V is similar to one of a car which will cater to Drivers stepping up from the sedan and hot hatch categories. The 5 speed automatic transmission plays a part in how smooth the ride is and the cabin isolates road noise well. Its reasonably calm and controlled once terrain is leveled and keeps its wheels on the tarmac if you were to take a quick turn building the driver’s confidence. It also comes with a real-time 4 wheel drive system available on all models which is always a good thing.  Under the hood sits a 2.0 liter Single overhead CAM IVTEC engine that delivers 153 Hp and 140 lb-ft of torque. So the CRV provides just enough power to not be boring but also not to be quick. But if you do desire more power there is a 2.4 litre option with 188 hp with 164 lbs of torque so don’t worry. The fuel economy is not bad for its class with a competitive estimated 30mpg plus you have the useful eco-mode which actually works.

So if you are in the market for a compact Recreational Vehicle I don’t think there is anywhere else to look. The Cr-V is a good everyday family car, simple functional and huge. Although you can have a 4wd CRV it still doesn’t perform to the caliber of most 4x4s do off-road but the CRV does everything it was mean to do well and the resale value of these thing will get anyone excited.
